Obtaining a Graduate Minor

Graduate students wishing to pursue a graduate minor must follow the procedures below.

  1. In conjunction with an adviser, graduate students must determine the appropriateness of pursuing a graduate minor and how best to incorporate it into their program of study.

  2. The graduate student must complete the Graduate Minor Program Form, including his or her adviser’s signature. This form serves as an application to enroll in a graduate minor and can be obtained from the graduate program offering the graduate minor. The form lists the required and/or elective courses that must be completed to obtain the graduate minor.

  3. Copies of the completed Graduate Minor Program Form are given to the Graduate School and the Graduate Studies Committee Chair from the student's home graduate program. Completed Graduate Minor Program Forms can be turned in during the first two weeks of every quarter. The graduate program offering the minor will keep the original copy on file.

  4. Upon receipt of the completed Graduate Minor Program Form, the Graduate Studies Chair of the graduate program offering the minor will send an acknowledgment to the graduate students indicating whether or not the request is approved. A copy will be sent to the Graduate School and the Graduate Studies Chair from the student's home graduate program..

  5. Upon receipt of the acknowledgment from the graduate program offering the minor, the Graduate School will send the graduate student an acknowledgment letter.

  6. Graduate students must adhere to the curriculum for the graduate minor as indicated on the approved Graduate Minor Program Form. If changes in the approved curriculum are necessary, a revised Graduate Minor Program Form must be submitted and approved. (See steps above.)

  7. Upon completion of the graduate minor, the student must complete the Graduate Minor Transcript Designation Form and submit it to the Graduate School for processing.

  8. The Graduate School will match the courses completed with those in the approved graduate minor. Departures from the approved graduate minor program can lead to a loss of transcript designation.
