Message from the Dean

Dear Colleagues:

As part of the Graduate School's effort to maintain accurate lists of graduate faculty and to make it possible for graduate programs to review and update that data, I'm glad to report that we have created a portal to our graduate faculty database (see below). This portal makes it possible for graduate faculty and graduate program administrators to view the current status and committee history of graduate faculty members and to submit changes online. Graduate faculty nominations will also be handled through this portal. I welcome your feedback on this effort.

This is just one of the many activities underway in the Graduate School to help support your work. During the quarterly meeting for department chairs and graduate studies committee chairs on February 17, I will report on several others, including the Summer Research Opportunities Program, fellowships, and the latest information about the task forces on the life science and environmental sciences.

Patrick S. Osmer
Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate School

Continuous Enrollment Policy

Last fall, the Graduate School established a continuous post-candidacy enrollment requirement for all students admitted to Graduate School Autumn Quarter 2008 and after. All such students who successfully complete the doctoral candidacy examination are required to be enrolled in every quarter of their candidacy (summer quarter excluded) until graduation. Implications for non-enrollment and conditions for leaves of absence and reinstatement were approved by the Graduate Council on November 16. The policy is available on the Graduate School homepage and is in the Graduate School Handbook.
