Applying to Ohio State

Criteria

Criteria for admission to Ohio State vary by individual graduate program. However, the minimum undergraduate gpa is a 3.0, and programs also require a 4-year completed undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. Review the detailed requirements for each Ohio State graduate program and degree that you are interested in.

Deadlines and timelines

Ohio State is on the semester system. Most graduate programs start in mid-August. Application deadlines, however, vary by graduate program. Deadlines.

Most graduate programs make admission and funding decisions between January and March for domestic students and between December and March for international students. To receive full consideration, the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions and the graduate programs should receive your required admissions materials by November 30 (international students) and by January 15 (domestic students).

Application fee waivers

You may be eligible for an application fee waiver.

  • CIC Fee App Program: The CIC is the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (Big 10 institutions plus the University of Chicago.) Eligible applicants are able to apply without paying Ohio State's application fee. CIC Free App eligibility criteria and online application
  • McNair Scholars: McNair Scholars are eligible for application fee waivers. Applicants should note their participation in the McNair program on the Ohio State application. They will then be prompted to request a fee waiver.*
  • Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) Scholars: SROP Scholars are eligible for application fee waivers. Applicants should note their participation in SROP at any CIC institution, including Ohio State's SROP program. They will then be prompted to request a fee waiver.*

     *Applicants should have their McNair or SROP director send confirmation of participation to fee_waivers@gradsch.osu.edu.
