Preparing Future Faculty Program

The Preparing Future Faculty program (PFF) offers Ohio State graduate students the opportunity to experience firsthand the unique challenges and rewards of an academic career at a smaller college or university. Ohio State's PFF program has been in place since 1996 and is modeled after the national initiative by the Association of American Colleges and Universities in partnership with the Council of Graduate Schools.

Timing of participation

The PFF program is designed for graduate students who are completing their PhD, MFA, or equivalent degree, and who are interested in exploring options for careers as faculty members. The timing of the PFF program is best suited to graduate students who are one to two years away from conducting an academic job search.

Activities

Ohio State's program prepares graduate students from any discipline for the challenges of an evolving professoriate that places increasing emphasis on teaching and service as well as research. The signature feature of the PFF program is an arranged mentorship with a faculty member at one of Ohio's leading liberal arts colleges. PFF fellows also engage in a series of professional development workshops and events developed for and limited to students in the PFF program.

Transcript

Ohio State's PFF program is an approved 2-credit Graduate School course and graduate students' participation in the program is noted on their Ohio State transcripts.
